Pics are showing, Pics are showing, ....

"And there was much rejoicing." Thank you guys very much.

One thing I've had ... (XP SP3 & Chrome) ... is that the window hangs if I go to insert pics inline. Videos no problem.

I cheated it in the 'Table de Paris' thread by inserting a jpg URL using the video button, then changing the [ VIDEO ] [/ VIDEO] to [IMG] [/IMG]

Haven't tried it in other browsers yet.

    Thanks again,
    Paul

Pic with slideshow, autosave, uncluttered layout, subtle changes here and there and a single column view.

One of the things I have noticed since the some of the forums have been moved to the top toolbar, is that those forums cannot be accessed in the Mobile Skin or on ForumRunner unless there has been a new post made and you can then access the forum via that new post.

Pic of Forums available through ForumRunner

    image-3955624445.jpg

    And one of Mobile Skin

    image-3766049958.jpg

Both of these were taken on my iPad, I usually use the full site on my iPad and ForumRunner on my iPhone.

One other thing I've noticed on my iPad is that the search box overlaps the Musical Instruments link on the top toolbar, haven't checked this on laptop yet.

DJ, search box overlapping has been logged and is being addressed.

Not rich enough to own an iPad, so can't check that, but I'm sure it will be looked at by the powers that be.

    Default Keep your powder dry

Ok, so the forum has been slow this week, and a few things have disappeared for a while. Sometimes we've taken a step forward and then a step back (orange-blue-orange text). This is exactly the kind of thing that happens with major upgrades. Anyone who has written a spreadsheet of even medium complexity will know that it wil be finished "when it is finished".

We can see new and very useful features coming on every day:
    Autosave
Extra tabs at the top which makes things faster
The "Like" button - this is excellent
    Slideshow (although I haven't seen/used that yet)

All the whining sounds like the kids from the back seat "Are we there yet?".

Consider the alternative: The forum could have been shut down for a week while all this was done. It would have taken longer than the current approach because the vast team of fault reporters would not have been available, so call it a two week shutdown.

So keep your powder dry until things have settled down, and you'll probably find that the forum has much more functionality than before, and quicker (logically) to use. And spare a thought for the implementation team - they've worked their butts off all week only to be rewarded with whinging from the impatient. Never forget that they are doing this for US and they are doing it for NOTHING, and we get the benefit for NOTHING. Pretty hard to find a better deal than that.

For those who want the old forum back - this is the IT world man - it's never static. It's the information superhighway, not a gated cul-de-sac.

I haven't seen any of the adverts popping up that have been mentioned, but maybe that's because I use Adblock (a Firefox add-on). This feature alone makes using FF (eh?) worthwhile.

One thing that I haven't wrapped my head around is the difference between Activity Stream and New Posts. Near as I can tell they are the same dog with a different smell, except that AS takes up much more space per entry than NP. I'm sure I must be missing something there.

Just saw another new difference - clicking "more" icons and that page is much more condensed than it was - good job too.

Suggestion: in Advanced Reply you could add another 24 (or well and truly more) of the most frequently used (by me) icons down the right hand side which would save having to open the "more" window (because that is quite a tedious process).

I might just add here that I just received a notification of a new post in a subscribed thread for the above post, almost at the same time, so that appears to be working again.

Our ever industrious backroom people have been tweaking email settings and it appears that has done the job

If it helps, this only happens to me when I zoom higher than 100%. At 100% there's no overlap. (XP SP3 / IE8)

Edit: My notifications seem to be arriving on time too, now.

We may need to leave out some grog sitting in/on our email boxes for the admins to collect as they come around ...
