I would like to thank Dave and
Raechell for organizing the weekend, doing things like this is not easy. I had a great time, met lots of new friends (some of who I might even remember their names).

Also a BIG thank you to Dave and Raechell for a great weekend. My mate Wayne also enjoyed it and is keen to join the forum.
Will have to rely on Al for the photos.
One interesting antidote to the weekend my good wife rang me to say that a friend who we hadn't seen for probably 10 years called in to see her while I was at the GTG and when I got there her husband (not a forumite) was at the GTG with his children as well, it was a real blast to catch up with him.The person who never made a mistake never made anything
Cheers

What ya Doin in Dooen 2019
For those who were here you may have seen an ideas book. Among the suggestions were
Box making
Pole dancing
Souvenir Tee Shirt
Home made tools (clamps, marking gauges etc)
Also working on
Thread chasing
Casting
The casting demo is reasonably certain. It is pencilled in for 9am Sat and 9am Sun to turn the cast product
More ideas welcome

I know I made three young people very happy making mallets on the weekend. I was thinking about possibly doing something along a similar line next time (I guess the homeschoolers will be there again?) maybe with a different tool and was considering making up a few marking gauge kits.
Nothing definite yet though. Mallets only happened because I was making a couple for myself and it all flowed from that. I have no idea at this stage what I will be doing in 2019.
Cheers

Yes the kids will be there again. Marking gauges would be good for them and for us.
Sounds good Doug

On another note ... a special thanks to those who put in extra effort to prepare projects and or do these with the kids. In no particular order
Doug Carr who do boxes with secret compartments on his mini mill set up
Sammy was one of those who enjoyed making the box and has been playing with it ever since
Uncle Al who prepped 20 pencil boxes for the day and bought his sanfer down
Amongst the kids at least one adult also got great satisfaction from assembling one of these and has been showing it off to those close to him
Dia sensai aka Neil who demonstrated pen turning
And assisted our wood be (pun intended) pen turners
Mr Tooradin did is lathe thing helping tje kids young and old
Doug3030 with his simple yet impressive mobile bench. Was blown away how good the hold fasts worked even in a 50mm plank
And the kids were so proud of their mallets
There will be more

Holdfasts are great! The young mallet-makers learned to use them very quickly. They are the main form of work-holding I use on that temporary bench. I also have wonderdogs and associated items and a z-vise that will fit on that bench and can be configured for use as a tailvise. I left all of them packed in the car because the holdfasts were all that was needed for that job.

Watcha Dooen in Dooen 2018 ... Australia Day Weekend
Are we talking like a activey that everyone takes part in.
Similar to that dodgy saw sharping class that happened a while back in another part of Victoria.
That I think a couple of you participated in.
Or just more demos of sorts.
Cheers Confused Man child.

Question for all ????
Looking at calendar for next year Australia Day is on Saturday. There is a public holiday on Monday 28th.
Should my next event be a 3 or 4 day event ?
I'm happy with either and plan to be much more prepared.

Don't stress about the preparation, I'm sure everyone is just fine with what you have done in the past (which we know is heaps) as we always feel welcome and enjoy our time there.

Hi Dave,
What if the Friday was for the homeschoolers, Saturday and Sunday was socialising, demo's, socialising, demos more socialising, tool making etc. No matter what happens WE ALL have a fantastic time..
Monday could be an easy day, for those that want/need to go home, with some sort of wrap up for the week end.
