Wow, that's not much of a merry christmas...
There's some big ticket items missing there. Hope you get some recourse.
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

Hi there, have just read with interest the whole 10 pages on Southern Star Campers. We too have done our money. Three weeks of being lied to, messed around, fobbed off. We actually asked for our money back (in person), given a cheque because he had no computer to transfer funds back into our account - and yes, you guessed it, the cheque has just bounced. We are furious. Could someone tell me how we can contact ACA or Today Tonight to add ourselves to the list? This weazel needs to be publicly shamed. Cheers.

MeToo
Sorry to hear about every one else, I am another victim joined because of this thread. We paid $6100 in August through ebay / paypal and have been waiting ever since. Today I lodged a compliant with consumer affairs VIC and also contacted today tonight via the link posted. I waited so long because I heard they were such good quality trailers, & thought this guy was just a bit green in the business department, and maybe a bit behind in orders. Not happy here at all.

I listed a complaint with today tonight, should I go to a current affair too?
Lets hope someone does something. I had all the SAME excuses listed before, wrong delivery name, damaged trailer returned for repairs, blah blah, finally he rang on the 15th of Dec and apologised, admitted on the phone that he had been lying for months and then tried to offer me a new top of the range model at no extra cost if only I would wait till Jaunary. I politely declined this offer and reminded him he said my trailer had already left..... again....
This whole mess has hit our family hard.... We were so excited about camping regularly in our own trailer, now every time I think about camping I get stressed. There is a feeling in the pit of my stomach that will not go away....

I hate to be a wet blanket, but going through ACA/TT is one of those 'feels good but won't accomplish much' activities, aside from perhaps some footage of Scott giving some snake-oil answers for the camera and walking away.
It's clear that Scott really doesn't have a business/personal reputation that he worries about so the naming and shaming approach of these programs is pretty much water off a duck's back to him.
Worst that can happen with this is that businesses that he is dealing with for parts see that his business is shaky and refuse to supply him on credit, meaning his ability to complete any trailers under construction would be pretty limited, and could even cause him to declare bankruptcy - then you guys (as unsecured creditors) would be last in line to pick the carcass of his no-doubt assetless (tools got stolen, shopfront is rented, vehicle is leased, business name has no goodwill) business.
You'd all be better off checking with VCAT and seeing what action you can bring against him via small claims - this is a cheap ($40 if your claim is under $10k) lawyer-less process, and at the end of the day you have an enforceable undertaking against him, so you can at least cause him some minor inconvenience.
If you are determined to do the ACA/TT approach, ignore email and instead phone either the producer(s) of the shows or the on-air journo(s) and try to get their interest in the story. (just use the general switchboard number for the station and ask for Tracy Grimshaw or whoever is on-air at the moment - best time to call is sometime between 9-10am).
Now, don't expect them to actually do much research - be prepared to hand them a story on a platter (especially at this time of year) - make sure you have a list of all the people who have been getting the runaround from Scott, have all their dealings with Scott detailed, have a list of prospective on-air talent with location and photo ready to send to them if they are interested (so they can see if it's possible/worthwhile to get a camera crew out there) and be prepared to sell them a story - it's not "I've been ripped off, and so have these other people...", but "Shonky business has been destroying the holiday plans of everyday Australians over Christmas by not delivering on its promises" (cue vid of emotional mother with upset young kids in shot).
(Please excuse my media cynicism)
