Can I make my own Enamel "Primer" for timber out of Top-Coat?...
'Afternoon "Blokey" Types...
I think it was my brother who was telling me once that he seemed to recall hearing from a Pro Painter that you can make your own Primer (for timber, that is...) by simply diluting down some Enamel paint with a fair bit of Turps. I guess the theory must have been that with enough Turps, the brew would eventually become thin enough to soak down into the grain of the wood...
I can't seem to find any previous threads dealing with the matter, so I herewith humbly request to henceforth avail myself of your learned opinions :q. Hopefully, if it is do-able, the recipe starts off with Top-Coat (rather than Undercoat), because I've got plenty of old Enamel paint of various colours just lying around - waiting to be used up. I guess I'd have to keep in mind whether any Home-Brew that started off using a darker coloured Enamel, might end up being very hard to cover up with nice white Undercoat and Top-Coat, come painting time...
Your thoughts then on the subject, if you please...
Many Thanks,
Batpig.
