    Smile Gale Montgomery (aka) Fish

G' day mates, althrough I am not used to the greeting I useally just use "Hello"
The first thing you will notice about me is that I can not spell worth a hoot there is and old proverb I lay use to for this condtion that goes like this" that it is a pretty narrowminded person who cannot find more than one way to spell a word" I make great use of this.
My Main interest in wood working is wood turning I have been turnning since my high school days where I learned the baseics then I had neighabor who was a retired seabe who taught me to think out side of the box when it came to turning and taught me things my shop teacher would have cringed at like useing a hatach for as a turnning tool or making my own tools which I could not afford anyway, My first lathe was made from 2x4 lumber and used car parts my first store bought lathe was a Sears which I still have and use off and on my main swing is a home-made lathe I made back in 2005 the Sears was just not cutting it any more and I was getting into larger pieces and one just dosen't turn a 40lb block of wood at 800rpm without some trouble so I made one, I call it "Big Red" it is 8' long and will turn 4'6" between centers and will swing over 28" over the bed if I had room in my shop I think I might be able to turn 8" off the end I would like to try it someday and try to make table tops. guess thats enough for my first post. Fish.

What they all said. We love to beg, borrow or steal ideas, especially home-made machinery.

Welcome to the forum. As has already been said, look forward to seeing some of your work.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."
