kitchen brewing up some questions

Im looking to build a kitchen in an old 1930's qldr, the old wall has been removed between the lounge and kitchen and soon the existing kitchen will be removed completly. I have put the inital frame work up between the kitchen and lounge but before proceeding any further there are some things i may need to consider and some questions i need to ask.

1. What should i consider prior
(i have ready to install an oven,benchtop hotplates, sink and dishwasher)

2. I have not decided what material to use for the benchtops and was thinking about hoop pine t&g flooring. has anyone done this or can i get any advice as to why or whynot use hoop pine.

3.What materials are best to build the cuboard walls with what dimension timber is recomended?


4.anyone know of a step by step webpage that will show the steps ?

5.Does the oven housing and dish washer need any special lining.
(i have these ordered but dont have physical possesion just yet)
my main concerns are getting the cuboards right and the fittings for the whitegoods correct.

the kitchen is very small i am thinking there will be room for 2 cuboards with no doors open style and under the sink 1 wide cupoard with double doors.

I can post detailed images of my current kitchen as is if required

any advice would be superb

hi again - I think the best way to get a godo idea of the space available to you is for you to draw a plan, including doorways and windows - this will show me exactly what space you have available to work in ..... at the moment its a little unclear for me to comment......

I can say however that in my opinion the best place for a sink is under a window.

BIG job restumping that place! Must be satisfying to have it done though

I thoroughly agree every time I look at a cupboard front as I do the washing up

One thing to consider when putting a sink under a window is the height of the window sill ... if you're making your own cupboards to fit the available space you could find at the end of it that your sink is too low down to use comfortably depending on where your taps are fitted.

ok sink under the window thats good ! i was a little concerned that because its a wet area there could be problems. the height of the window may be a very minor problem at this stage at 95 cm high its level with the window/ well just slightly i.e not dead level with.

As for the k plan i have one somewhere it may be easyier to redo it!

oh the french doors yes they are we plan to build a deck out of that space there used to be windows there but they went onto the old deck wich is now a room. all the window in the home are silky oak really nice. the door we brought for $100 and the guy threw in a heap like 5 sets of old windows as well the windows are supposed to be brisbane valley red ceder but they are in reaqllt poor condition the doors were top notch ! i can never really work out why anyone would paint such nice stuff !!

i added a restumping gallery (website) as well all the images are my our home just if your interested. I didnt restump the house myself jjs restumping did I would reccomend him to any thinking of restumping.
