Hi....we are in the process of creating a designated bbq area at one open end of our patio. We have a couple of 50mm thick insulated refrigeration panels that we will lay on their side and place at a bit more than 90° angle to each other to form a sort of corner area. The panels on their side will form a wall of 1200mm high. (We are using them simply because we already have them, and they will form a sturdy wall). We will place the bbq (on wheels) against one wall and plan to put a bench along the other.

We want to tile the internal sides of the panels, behind the bbq and where the bench will go. Can we tile directly to the panels or should we fix some kind of sheeting (we were thinking hardiflex) to the panel first. The panels are finished in the normal whitish finish that refrigeration panels are finished in which, I assume, is like a colourbond finish. Hubby is thinking it will be ok to tile directly to that, but we are unsure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks :)
