    Default Adjusting generator output voltage

    Hi all,
We had a black out this morning, so I pulled out the generator so that I could run water and boil the kettle. It took ages to boil the kettle, so I thought I had better check it out.

Anyway, it appears when I first start the generator it outputs 240V, but after about 10 or 15 seconds that drops to about 180V. Under load (kettle) it drop further to about 150V.

    It's a Braybon 3.75KVA generator powered by a 8HP B&S petrol engine.

Is there any way to adjust a generators output voltage?
What could be causing the voltage drop after about 10 or 15 seconds?

    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers.

    Vernon.

Where did you check the output voltage, at the generator, or at the end of a long extension lead?

Another thought, does it have an idle/economy mode? Maybe it doesn't get out of that under load?

It was at the GPO on the side of the generator.

It has a fast and slow setting. Same thing happens on both. I tried manually upping the revs and it didn't change the voltage. The engine seems to be running fine - just the voltage that seems to be out.
    Cheers.

I have a Gentec generator that wouldn't give any voltage , there was a 13 μF capacitor in the generator that had blown up. In the manual it said that the size of the cap regulated the voltage, replaced the cap and it worked again. Yours may work the same way and the cap is failing.
