Already said "hi", but I'm moving to Avoca...
Dunno where else to put this...
In a few weeks I'm moving to Avoca (Vic) and I'm wondering if there's anywhere around there (<50km radius) that I should be paying attention to (or avoiding) for tools, timber, food (all hail the post office bakery), metal and pretty much anything else.
I'm a fair bit of a scavenger, so knowing any mills/factories for offcuts and junk yards for other scraps or even just secret little locations full of other people's useful rubbish would be great. I've got the places I love to frequent around the Ballarat, Clunes, Maryborough and Talbot areas but a few more closer to the new home will be handy.
Anyone else happen to be around the area too? It'd be nice to at least know of a few similarly minded folk when I'm all settled in.

I suppose I'll have to 'fess up.
I'm from Avoca.
People to get to know are at the Avoca Tip.......Arthur (Thunder) Baldwin for good local timber slabs....and nobody wants to know me.
The Post Office bakery has done a big dive.......and Janie's Kitchen makes the best coffee in town, and makes beautiful Thai Style Pies. Two pubs.one with a TAB, and a really handy hardware store.
To be a woodie in Avoca you have to be a P.R.I.C.K......which is a member of the Pyrenees Research Institute for Consumate Knowledge.

Ta watson. A bit of local knowledge is always good to get a hold of.
I'm keen to get a look in at the riverside market too. I missed the big birthday one last weekend which was a bummer but hope it's worth going to or maybe one day having a table at it.
