Adult Shops
I don't know is this is a only Brisbane phenomenon, but there are adult shops popping up everywhere up here. It seem that every major shopping precinct has one, and I noticed a new one in an industrial complex nearby. It goes:
Plaster supplies, tyre repairs, tool shop (el cheapo Asian), a factory of some type, adult shop, trailer manufacturer ....
I mean talk about spot the odd one out.
Now I've never been into one of these shops, and to be quite honest, I don't think I ever will enter one (by the way, it's hard to write without innuendo when you're writing about sex shops). I think it would feel a bit seedy, like a front for a brothel or something. And even if I was interested in having a look around, I'd be worried about someone I know seeing me.
My questions are:
Is this sudden rise () in the numbers of these shops happening outside of QLD?
Have YOU been in one?
Would you feel seedy/embarrassed?
Am I a prude?
Am I deceased?

These shops are quite seedy inside. I work for a major ISP and one of our clients is a large sex shop chainstore. It is quite an eye opener when you see the things on display. I encourage you to check one out as they are a completely different world. I am not sure if there are more of them around now but maybe its like when you buy a new car everyone seems to have the same one. Its amazing how many nice women frequent these places.

I may have mentioned this before. Two years ago we hosted some exchange students from the States. I was driving them around near Williamstown at night and happened to mention -
"over there is my favorite store",
My son immediately said "He means the Woodwork store!"
Sure enough, an adult shop was right next door
Teenage girls didn't say boo for a while after that

When the economy takes a downturn, pleasure items thrive.

This why such places as Kings Cross - Sydney, Fortitude Valley - Brisbane, Fyshwick in Canberra which has a warehouse style K-mart, Melbourne can't recall the place, have been going for many years we have been in a down turn since
Councils and public have made them move away from schools etc there are many within industrial areas around the traps.
No never been into one needed to know where they are when a coach driver many an overseas visitor or interstate would always ask.

You're right, they are popping up everywhere, sometimes just a few doors apart from each other. I cannot believe there is enough custom to be financially viable and must therefore be there for some other possibly illegal purpose, such as money laundering or false financial accounting.

SWMBO and I went to one and the lady running it was a very friendly, helpful person running a small business. It wasn't seedy at all.

For the record that was meant to be a neither for nor against question, Rossluck's post got the gray matter going.
