Sanding between coats
Here's the deal - I sand between each coat, generally using a 150 screen grit on the polivac. From time to time the screen has built up what looks like residue of the coat, the sander then starts to grab and it becomes problematic to sand. My assumption had been, that even though the finish felt dry it must have still required a little time to cure - so generally if the 'grabbing' becomes too much or likely to damage the floor, I wait a few more hours.
However recently I did a floor - redgum with a coat of Bona Mega Prime and I then waited 6 weeks for the second coat (clients request), and lo and behold the polivac started to grab really badly. I went through 4 discs trying to finish a 40 sqm floor. And to confuse me evenmore, I put the 2nd coat on and 24 hours later was able to screen the floor with no grabbing at all.
Any advice on what is going on here?
