Recently contacted my local council via their website, regarding the raising of their water meter 600 - 800mm, left 2 contact phone numbers and of course they had my email address.

Three weeks later some council guy turns up announced when I'm not at home, I assume he is the plumber. He speaks with my teenage daughter, looks at the job at hand, tells my daughter that they will raise the meter for the princely sum of $341.00 and says he will give me a ring later on that evening. Fortunately for him, no-one ever rings! I would have torn strips off him as he tried to substaniate the ridiculious price he has given me for such a little job!

Why do all levels of government make it so hard to comply with their laws?

Needless to say that the council will not be moving the meter.

Can anyone tell me how much time would be required and what would be the material cost for such a job?
I'm going to phone my local councillor and ask him to explain the exspense!
