Silky oak dining room suite refurbishment

This is a hand me down that we weren'e happy to use until we could refurbish it. From memory the table had had some marks on the surface from rotting food and hot cups(?) but the chairs were certainly needing repair. First I need to confirm is this is silky oak? The picture is of an area I have started rubing down with rag and methylated spirits. It certainly has gone from almost black to showing grain. I was considering using some fine SS wool with the meths and cleaning with rags. After this I was looking at putting shellac on again but happy to hear advice on better alternatives such as oil.

Here is a typical shot of the first chair. I think the frame needs to be dismantled and cleaned with meths before putting on the new finish. I'm concerned about the old glue in the joints (if it is glue). Replacing the upulstory is something I haven't thought about in detail yet.

The spring look like copper wire and look very healthy so they should stay. The webbing (hope that is the right name) needs replacement. The upulstory is an unknown to me so I will have to look for a replacement. The stuffing is still there but maybe time for it to be replaced.

This is my first visit to this site. I was after information about restoring a silkyoak dining suite with matching sideboard. On first inspection it is quite dark looking - and I was hesitating in purchasing it. The info in this thread was very useful - I'm keen to restore for the first time. Thanks.
