I'm in the final stages of my bathroom renovation. I've had a couple of quotes on shower screens, and they've quoted me for a bevelled mirror as well. The size I was after was 900x975. The two quotes were $250 and $300 installed.
I notice on eBay I can pick up a 900x900 bevelled mirror for around the $60 mark. For such a price difference, the extra 75mm doesn't really matter, and I'm pretty sure I can install it myself!
But I want to make sure I'm comparing apples with apples here, so have a few (no doubt amateur) questions:

  • The mirrors on eBay seem to be 5mm thick, while I've been quoted for 3mm. Is there any advantage to one over the other?
  • On eBay, they mention they come with screws and brackets. I'm just planning on using silicone to put it directly on tiles. I assume there is no reason I have to use these fittings and can use silicone instead?

Is there anything else I should be aware of?
