    Default The Melbourne Wood show

what did every one think of the Melbourne Show?

I thought is was quite good, some very interesting displays at the stands and some nice equipement to drool over. I went to a couple of the "seminars" and was a bit disappointed they were very basic and more entertaining than informative.
I was astounded at the quantity of timber slabs for sale I reckon there was 50 to 100 tonnes of slabs between $200 and $1000 and they were walking out the door.

    I loved it.

Bought a few little bits and pieces, and did a good job of controlling myself.

Did anyone else see the Queensland Maple slabs at the back near the caffe?

    They were very nice.

    Ben.

Ps. Frank, you can probably get the "K" put on your name if you want.

I drooled over the Qld Maple, also some of the Cedar.
I was very restrained this year and bought only an Ooline bowl blank and of course Ubeauts Trad Wax and Polish Reviver for a friend of SWMBO who is addicted to the smell and recommends it to friends.
I am going back this afternoon for a second look and maybe a bargain.

    I wasn't.

    I bought:

    TSC10HB table saw $1350
    ML392 Planer/Thicknesser $795
    2HP extractor $250
    XXL Sorby hollowing tool $87
    King 1000/6000 waterstone $79
    Japanese dovetail saw $38
    Two cherries cabinet scraper $6
    Veritas honing compound $18
    Titebond II glue $12
    Pen blanks $10.
    A big bowl gouge $42

I saved $395 on the Saw, Planer and extractor. The other stuff cost me just under $300 so I'm thinking that I got all that for free.

i enjoyed it. it was good to put a few faces to some names as well.

I managed to keep my expenditure down, though I did get my pass out stamp in case I suffered a collapse of willpower before I got safely home.

was I the only one to be completely confused by the pet expo, the baby expo etc etc before getting to the working with wood. I wonder if any poor souls ended up at the wrong event.
no-one said on their death bed I wish I spent more time in the office!

Great to catch up with you Jackview, thanks for your persistence in finding me.

I told you I was a tall skinny chap with a full head of hair!

I hope you got everything you were planning on buying.

I thought we were the animal show! And there were some big kids there
They should have combined the lot.

    Thumbs up

It was my first visit. I went with a colleague and if it wasn't for my daughter's 21st on saturday, I would have gone back (great atmosphere!).
Didn't spend much but I had a great time chatting with folks including the legend!
Saving up my hard-earned to spend at next year's show.
