I am getting conflicting information regarding putting the cornices up before or after the plaster set coat.
The normal practice these days seems to be corncie up 1st then they apply the set coat up to the cornices. I am told this is only because the builders want the flushers and plasterers in and out as fast as possible so they can get the next progress payment form the clients. I was recently told that in high end propertys they do the set 1st then cornices. I was puzzled by this and was told the 1st method is also preffered as the flushers dont have to be so clean and wipe off the cement that oozes from the bottom of the cornices against the wall. I was also told that some flushers dont even bother brushing off the loose sand from the float coat before cementing on the cornices. Surely cementing to the set coat would be a better method as this was how it was done in the old days and in my current 40 year old house this was how it was done and to this day I have no cracks in my cornices and I am on a busy main road where the house shakes when big trucks go by. (another matter to sort out with main roads)
What are people thoughts on this??
