    Default g'day, australia

Hi all, Ime jay. Ime 28, and a joiner currently living in Liverpool, england. I was hoping anyone could give me some information regarding working as a carpenter in australia. Ime waiting for a 12 month working holiday visa, and hopefully should be coming over in the next month. Is there much work in australia at the moment, and where would be the best place for me to start looking, i was thinking Brisbane or perth? Also how much would i be looking at earning a week? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ime a site joiner, and have worked on most aspects of joinery, ie first, second and final fix, thanks

    Thumbs up

G'day James and welcome to the cubby!!

Like everywhere in the world at present the employment situation still tight but Brisbane seems to be your best bet as there is still quite a bit of building going on here. Good luck.

Welcome James. Hard to say where is the best place for work at the moment. Forecast for the future is not too good for the short term but Brisbane seems as good as anywhere at the moment but we are only just starting to feel the pinch of the downturn. Interest rates are at a record low and apparently banks have stopped lending for domestic projects. Unemployment is predicted to rise dramatically in the next few months. The government has taken some drastic steps to try and boost the economy but what will happen in the future is pure speculation.
Of course, for those of us who are still in work, things are still great and Australia is about the greatest place on earth to live. It seems that we are not having such a tough time as the rest of the world experiencing the economic crisis but what the future holds is uncertain to say the least.
Hope I haven't dampened your spirits and wish you all the best for your trip over here.
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John

Cheers guys, always wanted to go to brisbane, but one thing or another has stopped me. Just spoke to a nice aussie girl in london, from hays recruitment. She gave me a lot of info about the situation over there. She sent me a registration form to fill in, and she will forward it to her rep in brisbane. Once again guys thanks a lot,
