    Default New Thread Problem

Its happening again. I start "new thread" type my message then add my attachments. (all attachments are of legal size) Attachments are accepted without errors. I then "submit new thread" and the system appears to have gone through but when I go to view my new thread its not there, even after refreshing. This happened a few weeks ago. I have since submitted other new threads with pics, no problems. But again tonight I am getting the same problem as before. I am at a loss as to where this thread has gone to if anywhere at all. I have tried several times to submit this thread without success. Could you please enlighten me as to what is happening. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the server?

OK. So I have worked one thing out. In my attempts to post the new thread I have a message telling me I have 40 pictures uploaded when the maximum is 12. The message tells me to go back and delete them. Delete them from where? I cant find anything that allows me to view and or delete uploaded files.
Here's hoping the Admins can help me out .

P.S. Of course, this still doesn't answer my question as to why my post wasn't accepted in the first place.

Are you typing the words directly into the actual box for the new thread or are you cut/copy and paste from somewhere else?

Where are you looking for the thread ie ispy, new posts or the actual forum body, secction etc.?

If you received that message the post won't have been uploaded. Using the back button should have taken you back to the "Post New Thread" box so it could be edited. However refreshing will kill the back link especially if you're using Explorer. Firefox is a little more flexible as it seems to keep more cached info available.

If your compiling the thread in Word then doing a cut n paste you will get a heap of unseen pics.

Compile the thread/post in the forums and for a big thread/post it's always a good idea to highlight the entire post and copy it before hitting the "Submit" button just in case something like this happens.

Good idea not to post a new thread (especially a big one) around midnight (AU E.S.T.) as we have a heap of stuff happening for a couple of minutes from midnight and you could get a timeout error and the same around 2 am when we run backup.

What time was the post submitted?

Did you actually have 40 pics in the post or were some of them smiles?

Did you also include links in the post?

    Cheers - Neil

My original compilation was typed directly in the "new thread" box. But having had this problem before and lost the entire thread I had copied and pasted the text and saved it to a word document, so each attempt after that was pasted from said document. I had no links attached only picture files (800 x 600 res and much smaller than 100 kb) . The "upload" window had informed me that all files had uploaded successfully. But as I stated earlier the thread never got posted even though the system said it had.

And yeah, it was in the wee hours of the morning but as far as I could tell it all went smoothly without any timeout errors or such. Anyway, it's still got me jiggered as to where it has gone and why this happens. Think I will download firefox and see that treats me better than explorer.

OK, I'm getting closer to a resolution. I downloaded firefox and went through the process of posting my thread again. I copied and pasted the text from my word document, uploaded the pics and placed them accordingly into the thread. Same error. System telling me I was trying to upload 40 pics. Except now because I am using firefox I can see a whole swag of smileys at the end of each paragraph. Dunno how they got there but after deleting them all the thread posted up. My pics dont show as thumbnails though, just seen as links. Probably something I did wrong there I guess I'll have to work on that. Or maybe a hint or two from Admin.

As Neil said in his post above, Word gives a whole heap pics, they are actually formatting commands that get translated in to graphics/smileys.

If you want to pre-compose or save copied text, use Notepad or a similar text editor, not Word.

DJ has written quite a good guide to posting pics on the forum, once you get the hang of it, it isn't hard. It is actually a sticky at the top of this very forum!

Now that you have installed Firefox, stick with it, it is so far better than IE, and the number of add-ons are excellent tools.

As an add on to using Word, if you must use Word, cut and paste into Notepad and then cut and paste from Notepad into a reply box here on the forum.

By cut and pasting into notepad and from there, it gets rid of the Word formatting which gives you all the extra unknown smileys which count as images
