Replacing louvres with aluminium sliders
Hi all
This is my first post other than saying hello in the "G'day" section. Please go easy on me!
I am about to embark on a project to remove the panels of metal louvres in our home and replace with aluminium sliding windows. I have done a small amount of improvement work previously including all the framing and lining etc to convert a carport into a room, so have some skills.
The louvre replacement job will involve removal of the louvres, timber framing the resulting opening, fixing the new window in and external and internal lining. When they are all done we want to render all the brickwork and the lining above and below the windows.
The first question I need to ask is this - how do I go about waterproofing the new wall prior to lining? I think I will be faced with 2 options once I get the louvres out - leave the existing aluminium louvre frame in situ and fix the frame to it, or remove the al frame and fix the timber frame directly to the slab floor and brick walls on the sides. I want to do this correctly so my gut feeling is I should do the latter - what are your thoughts and whichever way I go what do I need to do for the weatherproofing?
Thanks very much for any advice you can give. If you need more info or photos give me a hoi.
Cheers.
GG
