Welcome Sapphire ....you do realize it's kinda' suspicious actually buying a house in this economic climate that were currently in. So here's my thoughts on that subject

Yes i do realise that we are in an economic crisis, though i thought that it would be a good idea to put the money that i have back into society, thus boosting the economy. Life does go on.

Hey all...as I said earlier im after some info on fixing up houses. Just bought a house with a terracotta tiled roof. Is it true that you can't paint these tiles, and if so why?

I'm more Garnet...earthy-stone. But I still like those little bright blue ones too!
LOL... sorry but I was wondering how good you want to become at the renovating depends.... on how much work you're going to need to do on you're lastest purchase....
Oh... don't mind me...I have a very warped sense of humor... good to see new folks on-board...
I've been in & out of here for a few years now... like visiting old inmates....LOL... some of us need locking away Im sure.....
But really a fantastic crew.... yes we all jump overboard ... looking for the life boats first chance we get....
Some charracters are colourful... & others just riviting...
You will get great benefit from looking up previous posts... & of course you can private message someone when you need to know stuff specific... the archives are wonderful... an absolute bee's hive of information... you always get a warm fuzzy feeling when you visit...
If its advice... from the pro's you're after don't look in my direction.... but yes .... search the forum... there out there & some are more than good they are exceptional, very helpful & friendly....WELCOME ...
Cheers...KEKEMO..
Don't think you're playing it safe by walking in the middle of the road.....that's the surest way to get hit by traffic coming from both ways!
I'm passionate about woodwork.......making Sawdust again & loving it!

Just saw your remark about Terracotta roof tiles. Yes you can paint them. Like all tiles, the roof has to be cleaned first by high pressure washing to remove moss, dirt and grime. Terracotta is a natural material and hold moisture and is very prone to moss build up over the years. They have a high glaze on when new and are very slippery to walk on and when old they are still very slippery due to the moss on them. Tricky to wash because if you walk on a tile that is wet and still has moss on it then watch out, just like walking on ice. Once the tile is cleaned, you can walk on it with no problems.I think this is why some people say you can't paint them because of their slippery nature.
I have been painting roofs for nearly half a century and have painted many Terracotta tiled roofs in that time.Reality is no background music.
Cheers John
