Talking Not a newbie but an intro nonetheless ...

I'm starting to get out in the world so thought it was about time I introduce myself properly.

I'm Carl, live on the Mornington Peninsula and am fast becoming addicted to buying wood and tools. - There, I said it!

Woodworking interests: at the moment, anything goes. I've made a bookshelf, a small sitting bench, a magazine rack, letter holder, small dovetailed box and of course my basic workbench.

Only been doing this for about a year now (on weekends) but always used to play (read: ruin) my dad's tools when I was a younger chap. Thankfully my wife is a fantastic supporter. She has no problems with me spending money - as long as she gets some at the same time to go shopping with. I guess I can live with that arrangement!

Other interests: work at a business school, managing part of an IT department. I actually quite enjoy it, mainly because I have a fantastic team working with me. Spend a bit of time watching tv, reading New Scientist and other such nerdy activities! Oh, and I swing dance too (that's how I met my wife!)

So there you go. Thanks to all the folks here who have given me help and tips so far. It's very much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Af (Carl)

    Hi Carl, welcome.
Having a wife supporting you is a big plus.
Dancing keeps you young and healthy, even this old guy loves it to dance with my lady from time to time, just a foxtrot, fine enough.
I'm sure you'll find on this forum everything you need, very friendly people here.
    Have fun.

Spelling and punctuation wins! I now pronounce you our new Carl!

    Welcome to our asylum and...

    All hail the New Carl!
    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

From the commentary I see you've done an injustice to the name! Lucky I am in awe of your work. Fear not, another Carl will come along and overthrow us both shortly!

My pics will show you nothing even near the vicinity of Carl Snr's work, but here we go ... Starting with the ones I'm most proud of ...

    Sitting bench

Red Iron Bark top with Huon Pine sides.

    Chair restoration
Who knows what this is made of. We think it was built in 1943 though.

Then some little bits and pieces ...
    Deck at our previous unit:

Then a pretty basic table/desk (which is now my sanding station in the garage!):

Thanks Ed. That's by far my favourite piece to date. Would love to do another similar but different version of it soon.
