Finishing a table top
Hi
here goes
I thought I had this sussed!!
I have 1.5m* 1.5m Pine and Mahogany table top
Wood grain filled with Wattyl timber filler and then sanded smooth down to a 1200 wet and dry
I have stained with a water based Cabots wood stain new rosewood (very heavy so to give a 1 look across the 2 types of timber.)
i have applied to date 4 coats of Wattyl Estapol (oil base)with a light sand in between each coat with 240 grit
I have attempt to use a roller (wool as per tin), brush and a rag (similar to fp)
however each time I get either little hairs or uneven spread.
After chatting to a fella at bunning who seem to know what he was talking about I put the table top on a vertical orieination , new tin of said estapol and with the recommend Glossing Kit complete with mohair sleeve loaded the roller
Horizontal roll, vertical and a final light roll
I still have little hairs and and even more streaks/ dribbles!!
Im tempted to strip back to bare and start again and apply a tung/poly/vegturp/ mixture, used successfully on rimu kitchen joinery in NZ
Btw in the garage doin this which is spotless and is in fact the cleanest room in the house atm with intel interested in my clean room methodoligy
Help: where am i going wrong!!
