I have looked at a small and very old floor which I am bit perplexed about.

The carpet hasn't come up yet, but from what I can see the floor is about 120 year old Kauri? boards that are around 12 inch by 1 inch. The nails are those large squareheaded beasts. From the very small area of floor I have seen the floor seems to be fairly polished from normal wear and tear (The carpet has been down for about 30 years), given that the house is a very old house I am thinking that sanding and finishing floor may make it look "too new". I am therefore considering just running a couple of coats of a Hard wax over it? Any suggestions?
