I have a leak in my Trimdek roof, onto my (yes you guessed it) new ceiling in my sunroom.

On inspection, whoever installed the roof has overlapped a full pan of a sheet, rather than cut it. It has rusted through the pans in both sheets.

Is this what would normally happen in this case? That is, should there never be any side lap on sheets other than the rib?

As it is at the bottom of the roof, I intend to remove the offending side lapped sheet, by cutting it longwise so no part of the pans overlap. I will then cut out the offending section and then slide in a new piece, silicone and rivet.

Is this new lap going to be a potential problem as well, if I correctly seal with neutral cure silicone.

To remove the entire 10m length of sheet would be difficult. I am hoping to get away with this "simple" fix.

Thanks in advance for any clues.
