How to make my air con water wise?
Hi.
I have an old-ish (9 years) Brivis evap system that works beautifully and has never given me a days trouble...BUT...it has an auto dump mechanism (excuse if this is not the correct technical name). i.e. it fills with water and when it's turned off it automatically dumps it. Waste! :((
At the time I am not sure that I was given an alternative but I remember the builder saying something about it being healthier to use fresh water each time the unit is turned on. Probably correct but in this day and age I really hate and loathe the thought of this wasted resource. God knows how many litres go down the drain every time the unit is switched off. It's got to a point where I am reluctant to turn it on unless it's 35C and this is making me very unpopular at home!
Can I retro fit a 'dump valve' (?) so that I only have to empty the cooler at the end of Summer? Failing that, I was thinking about installing a Rain Diverter since the water seems to be expelled via one particular down pipe; at least this water can go to the garden this way. I still would rather the former if it is at all possible.
Thoughts?
ETA: even if I keep the unit 'ON' but the pump 'OFF' the water is still dumped automatically after about one hour or so.
