DIY Window Awnings
Our weatherboard house has a NE aspect, so it cops a fair belting from the morning sun, and the afternoon sun bakes the western side of the house as well. I put 3.5 batts in the roof a couple of months ago which made a difference, but 3 continuous days of 30C+ temps have turned the house into an oven!
There are no large trees offering shade, so it's exposed all day long. I have a second hand window type a/c on the way, but i want to protect all the windows as well. We already have blockout curtains on all windows, so with some sort of external shade it should do the trick.
Now i have been quoted stupid amounts for canvas roll up blinds like these, so i figured it shouldn't be too hard to knock something up myself.
Two options:
1. Simple roll up blind using shadecloth hung from the eaves
2. Timber frame/shade cloth folding arm type awning using pivot brackets similar to the above pic.
Has anyone tackled such a diy..any tips/advise ?
Cheers!
