I did a quick search and couldn'd find anything too specific, so here we go. I need to start a new project retiling my front internal stairs (about 11 stair in total). They are currently tiled in a ferral clay based tile (which i have ripped out from most other areas in the house) it make a hell of mess when jack hammering.

My question to everyone is, what experience have people had tiling over exsisting tile. They are very solid so no problems structuraly. Is it a matter of a different type of adhesive or priming the tiles first or just roughing up the exsisting with an angle grinder? I dont need to worry about height issues as the ceilings are monsterous and its only the stairs. I can get Mapei adhesive and grouts really easy from where i work. namely keraset and keraflex for sticking down.

Thoughts??
