G'day-from an old beginner
Hello, a 60+ new turner who has never made anything with his hands in his life. In 3 months I can now make a bowl (not bad either). Practicing on getting thinner sides now. Good fun, relaxing and a good confidence builder. Look forward to asking lots of questions.

Well here is a pic of my first attempt. Big thick sides and a "few" toolmarks. But practice is fun. Don't have my own lathe but use one at the club a day a week.

Welcome L
Very good turnings for a first timer....now the fun begins - build shed, buy bandsaw, buy lathe, buy lathe tools, etc., etc.
BTW...is that Camphor Laurel?Cheers,
Ed
Do something that is stupid and fun today, then run like hell !!!

Yes it is Camphor Laurel. Beautiful but can be difficult. The big bowl has lots of natural fissures in the wood that I found a bit unnerving initially but looks nice. Love the smell when I work with it.
