Hi all,

Firstly thank-you for all the valuable info I have already drawn out of this web site - it has seen most of my decking through.

I am almost up to fixing the 22mm x 140mm merbau to the 90 x 45mm TP joists.

As I have seen there is no definitive answer to the question which fixing hardware to use.

So I have decided to use 14 gauge type 17 bugle/hex head Gal screws. I like the chunky look of these. I see a problem with these when I need to butt join two ends, the screw will be very close to the end of the board and I am concerned about splitting the timber.

1/ Has any one used these screws for their decking and if so how did you overcome this for seen problem?

2/ Also, will two of these be enough at each joist?

Any suggestions would be great. thanks
