Default Finish for a Camphour Laurel kitchen bench top?

I have got a beautiful new Camphour Laurel slab for a kitchen bench top.

It will be under a window getting direct, hot sun for part of the day.

Has anyone got suggestions for a strong, durable, UV resistant finish product.

I would prefer to keep the natural colour of the wood, as much as possible (that is - not much pigment in the finishing product).

I am an amateur, and am unsure of polyurethane vs. oil etc.

    Cheers

    Thumbs up

For mine, Fast Watson Weathershield would be the go. First step though woul be to use their Fungus Shield followed by at least 3 coats of the WS.
WS has a purplish tinge to it in the can- that is the effect of the UV inhibitors. Dries clear.

what ever path you choose, try it out on a test piece of Camphor Laurel first.

Min-Wax polyurethane comes to mind. Either the wipe on variety or the full strength diluted a bit with mineral oil to make it more brushable. Or, alternatively, how about a brushing varnish?
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

And it's probably worth your time to wipe down the wood with acetone - or similar, fast-evaporating thinners - before applying the finish.

Camphor is a fairly oily timber and this temporarily removes the oil from the surface so the finish can key to it.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

    Thanks everyone.

It all got too much, so I just used some Gloss Cabots CFP, with no preparation - and hoping for the best!
