I need to bolt a sink to a brick wall and want to avoid the pipes carrying the cold/hot water.
Is there a rule of thumb as to which direction the pipes go on entering the wall. ie is it straight up/down or is it acceptable for builders to allow them to wander diagonally?
Furthermore I imagine should they enter a double brick wall the pipes travel up/down in the cavity between the bricks, is that right?

A second aspect of this job is, I need a bolt I can screw in to a plug in the tile/brick wall. Is there a bolt which head shears off allowing a nut to then be screwed on to the remaining shaft?
OR is there another method of fixing threaded rod into a brick wall?

Grateful for ANY thoughts on this......TA
