Hidey ho,

I am in the process of construction a new letterbox from a length of Ironbark from an old timber bridge. I wanted something that the local brats wouldn't destroy when they go for drunken walks on friday nights. Some people may call this overkill. It took some cunning to get it in the ground as she weighs @300kg (bent the tailgate of the old ute). next step is to tidy it up and mortice out a hole with a chainsaw and then plane it smooth.

I need some advice on exterior finishes. I am thinking of using an oil but am open to advice. the endgrain might need filling - possibly with a resin(say fibreglass)

Any suggestions??

Andy
