new at tiling
Hi. I have a single front terrace in Flemington (Melb). Small kitchen at back (4 sq mts tiled floor). Some tiles have cracked - I think cause is movement. I have removed old tiles. Half of kitchen floor has cement sheet (with quite few joins), half is solid concrete (tiles set directly in concrete) and there is a section in middle between concrete and cement sheet which also has thin layer of cement (green paint below). Tiles that cracked were laid on both cement sheet and solid concrete areas. Qn:
- Should I remove old cement sheet (and replace with new) or can I lay new tiles over old?
- Do I need to consider future expansion/movement for such small are? Any thoughts regarding how I do this with half floor solid cement and half cement sheet?
- Do I need to prep solid cement section? Or do I just tile straight on top?
- Should tiles be laid over cement sheet joins? Or should tile edge align with cement sheet joins to limit cracking.?
- Any other tips?
Thanks
Carlos
