Laying Mosaic Tiles - HELP!
We had a waterproofing problem in our shower so have had to redo the whole thing. Now we have also put in a wall insert which is to have mosaic tiles.
I have spent the best part of today laying a tiny section (about 40cm x 10cm) area (the bottom 'shelf') and I am rapidly going insane!!!
How on earth do you lay these stupid tiles?
After about 10 attempts and wasting about 3 full sheets of tiles, the only way I could do it was by having a flat layer of glue without creating any ridges. This was to try and stop it looking wavy. The other problem is that the waterproofing has rounded all the inside corners so the layer of glue has to be quite thick.
My biggest problem, which I haven't yet figured out, is how to do the top part where the tiles have to go upside down. How do you keep them up there while the glue drys?
I was thinking about cutting a piece of wood and propping it up against the tiles until the glue is nearly dry but I am worried this will cause a lot of the tiles to sink to far into the glue and move around too much, hence the wave effect again which I wouldn't be able to see until it's too late.
And then there is the problem of the sides and back, how do you keep the tiles from sliding down? I can't use spacers with them as there will be hundreds and some of the spacing is not wide enough, not to mention moving individual tiles each time I try to put a spacer in.
I am also guessing that I will only be able to do one side at a time, letting it dry completely before doing the next part.
This sucks and next time I will be hiring a tiler!!! :((
