    Default walking stick

    G'day All Getting a bit long in the tooth and wobbly on the pins and purchased a walking stick outfit to turn - it has a brass head with a screw on sleeve, and two brass joiners with threads. Now I know I'm not blessed with intelligence but how in the world do I make threads on the 3-piece stick that I'm turning to put it all together? Appreciate any helpful suggestions.

    Hi Len and welcome. Not sure how you go about that but I am sure someone will know. Maybe if you turn the stick down to just the right size, the thread on the joiners may make the thread on the timber when you screw them on.

    Welcome Len, if possible show something of your work.
    Always nice for getting the idea in what kind of direction you are going. Okay a walking stick is something, but there are so many other objects we can talk about.

    Len,

    The pieces that fit into the wood are supposed to be course enough to "lock" into the wood. Personally I wouldn't trust it, I would add some epoxy. Have a look into the woodturning section, someone just asked a question about walking sticks.

    I personally prefer a one piece stick
    I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

    For a while in my early 20's I relied heavily on one and I know damned well that what I make now - which have joints - are best used only as swagger sticks.
