    Default 380 and $380

Qantas has started flying their Airbus 380 to the US. Here they are advertising one way fares or $380. Flights must be during October 2008 or May, 2009.

So next May, don't say that you haven't been forewarned.

Had a similar gimmick imposed on frequent-flier seats by Delta in March of year XXXX to Europe. Next available return seat wasn't until September. Thanks, but No Thanks. Went full fare both ways.

    Rich,

$380? No such thing as a free lunch. Obviously there's a catch in the small print. And if it is discounted, it's still airline food.

The catch is that there were only 85 seats available at that price. The free advertising these deals churn up more than offsets any revenue loss.

Joe...re Delta's FF deal...why didn't you book one way on points a buy a one-way home at retail? Or is the price structure skewed to make that equally expensive?

'Twas 10 years ago, gregory, and a quick decision. And I think the price structure would have been skewed any way possible. Airlines, and other mobs, have pretty much mastered the art of dynamic pricing.

I think that the words are 'Dynamic Screwing'.

The worst thing that ever happened to an airline when Delta acquired Western. Even today at 30,000 feet I can tell the difference between RD, OW and ND. (Real Delta, Old Western and New Delta)
