Hi all
Well I've had some time today to actualy takes some piccys of our new venture.
Even though I've spent some 30 enjoyable years laying bricks, I must say that I wont be missing it all that much.
This job is much easier.

Theres a good sized workshop at the rear, I just got to clean out all the goodies before I can use it.
I dont think Ill be makeing any good furniture for a while, crap seems to sell better. :confused:

After a week (?) selling crap you imply above that you have made some sales anyway...hope all is going fantastically for you..

On a positive note, if crap sells well, I guess I've got a future in manufacturing!!

Bring out your crap furniture.
Weve been open for two weeks now, and both of us are buggered, must be the stress of setting up etc.
I think that once we settle into a routine we will be ok, but I am doing 14-16 hour days at the moment.
We aint open Mondays, but I got to go lay some bricks tomorrow for the last time.
Tuesday Im off to the auctions to get some stock.
We are getting some positive feedback from customers about how bright and clean the place is looking, so wait until we've been there for months, not weeks.
We have to get some security cameras installed soon, I have already got things rolling in that regard.
We have had the shoplifters through already, just petty annoying stuff, but we have to spend $7500 to try to put an end to it.
Sad world. :mad:

So Al, where did you get your knowledge of what is a good buy and what isn't?

Is it a long standing interest you've both had ?

I only ask because if your going to make a living out of it you obviously have to know what "the right" price is for an item at auction.

Hope your new venture is all you hope it to be.

Easier said than done, video evidence is more gooder than your word against them.

Also the video will clock their car rego, so, go to goal, do not pass go.

Weve both been very avid collectors for about 20 years, so over time you sort of get to know whats a good buy and what aint.

A lot of time all you need is common sense.
We only go to auctions that are mainly dealers buying, most of them are tighter than a fishes bum, so all you have to do is out bid them by $1, and you still get a bargain.
Now Ill have to kill you all, now that Ive let out some trade secrets.

The REAL trade secret:

It's a little known fact that bricklayers are such a violent and passionate bunch that on most sites they are banned from talking sport, politics, religion. (In fact they are banned from talking intelligently, which goes a long way to explaining a lot of things! )

Most take this in the spirit in which it is intended, and spend inordinately long hours confined in a small room, reading classified advertisements. On cold, damp days a goodly part of the available daylight hours are consumed in this manner.

Of course when the time comes for them to hang up their trowel for the last time, they have usually absolutely no life skills to fall back on, but can recite the prices for which the last five sets of the 1962 Encyclopaedia Brittanica were sold for, including the condition of each volume right down to the marks on the pages containing rude words.

It appears to me that our good friend Oz has earned his PhD in Improbable Valuation and is ready to set one small part of the world alight!

Let's face it, anyone who can be banned from trading on eBay should fit right in to the world in which he now finds himself!

Pity about the hard work though....things around here are getting far too quiet of late!!

Bring out the dead? Is that the name of the shop? Is that the strange reason for the bodiless arms hanging? i guess with out knowing the name of the store, it seems a pretty strange thing to bombard the ceiling with

i just love shops with bric a brac, always hunting for that bargain!

I went to a clothes auction that resulted from a fire ina major store here in perth and the clothes were filled with smoke, they only needed a wash. got a great bargain, 10 shirts all worth between $20-40 for $25 the lot.

Have worked in customer service since I left school and the one thing Ihave learnt thru work and as a customer is don't bug the shopper, but keep an eye out. If they look lost, jump in and help!

Al,

Seems like an expensive security system, thought you would have had Fluffy on duty to guard the store.

I suppose if trade is a bit slow you could crochet up some brick covers to use as door stops (what a mental picture), keep any leftover mortar then if you catch any crooks you can fit up some special boots for them.
