hi i have been reading this forum for a while but never actually joined up and contributed till now.
I have had many discussions with swmbo about the kids in the shed (ages 4 and 2) the 2 yo comes in with me and gets to all the hand tools as well as his set he got from santa but is never left alone as he is like a bull in a china shop. the 4yo girl has her own tools chest set up with hand tools , nothing too sharp just pliers screwdrivers tapes etc. i bought them both a cheap screw gun from dick smiths for xmas and then pre drilled some pilot holes in some scrap timber so now the can sit and screw various size screws in and out of the block as well as put bolts and nuts through the larger holes. both kids know that they are not allowed in with out shoes glasses and hard hat. although only the 4 yo actually complies.
as a reminder to them i made up some safety signs like you see on building sites with the pics of boots glasses etc on them and printed them out and laminated them and put them on the door of the shed. these i got from google search for safety signs. i also have one saying kids names are not aloowed in shed without being with an adult and no one is to enter if they can hear a machine running.
thanks for everyones help so far and look forward to contributing more

Yep same here... an adult comes to the shed RULES APPLY... no ifs buts or maybes... sandpaper aplenty if they dont want to use it they can leave the same way they came in! Nah usually Ben will give me a hand with whatevers happening but normally none of the visitors do anything... ooh Chris (Christopha) being the exception he IS WELCOME anytime strewth the bloody cloud muncher even cleans up after himself!!!
But Ive never really had many adult visitors to the shed... its sorta my sanctuary and most will respect that... unless theyre the annoying gits that just wander up and sit on a stool or moaning chair and yak yak yak while Im tryin to do something... annoying buggars! I mean IM WORKIN HERE!!... more often than not I will hand them the sand paper or varnish or some such and watch them bolt!!! If they stay after that no wukkers beers in the fridge in the corner once the jobs done help yerself
Cheers

The only real differences are
I have two Kids { Amy 12 [Girl] and Jon 8 [Boy]that are autistic and one " Normal kid Deanne 10 [Girl] " so there it is usually a case of kids in shed no work for dad { I do the supervisor and teaching } , Darkside tools only { thats how I learn't } , Shoes suitable clothes
Deanne is allowed in when I'm turning as long as she has glasses on and is sitting in the corner or I'm beside her if she is turning{ skews as well }
ortherwise Just me down there making Dust
I have a sign that say " Not Invited Not Wanted " So I don't entertain Visitors
Again no me shed no get open
The exception of course is SWMBO
