I did something stupid
G'day,
This isn't a thread to gloat or pump out my chest in stupid bravo and write how tough I am, but how stupid I am and make others aware.
If a t/saw has a persepx bade guard above a blade, then it's there for a reason - so you keep your digits away!
Trying to maximise every bit of spotted gum I can, I was trying to cut a 19mm piece off a 40mm width. Now if the guard on the blade doesn't let you do it, don't
I had the guard raised so I could do the cut, I had a push stick for the one piece (but even that was too close to the blade) and my left thumb pushing the other piece past the blade. Alarm bells were ringing before I started and i should've stopped there.
Next thing I was left right and center and lots of "Argg!". it's when i go "argg!" that SWMBO pokes a worried face against the window and races out to the deck.
End result is in the pics. SWMBO wants me to let you know she took the lovely shots. I took all the skin off the tip of my thumb, which hurt like all buggery for an hour or so until the Panadol kicked in, and nicked my thumbnail.
Okay i was stupid with what I tried, but with a little bloke who will want oneday to use the t/saw, A Sawstop would be money more than well spent, not for a false sence of security but to stop what I did today possibly being something worse.
Thankfully it wasn't my 24teeth Ake rip blade.

lucky for you it wasn't worse than that. A hand with no thumb is next to friggin useless.
Here is a good rule to go by.
whilst ripping on the T/saw, NEVER push anything through by hand less than 150mm wide. Learn to use push sticks like an extension of your hands and fingersI know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

G'Day Waldo.
You were bloody lucky there, it could have been far worse. Sorry, but I have to disagree about the sawstop. Yes it would have prevented the injury, but it wouldn't have stopped you doing what you did.......which is where your problems began.
Hope the digit heals soon.Chris

Sorry Waldo.
Buy some Grr-Rippers tomorrow! That sort of thing just can't happen when you are using them.
