    Angry Burglars

At 5:50am the missus dug me in the ribs "there's someone out there!".

"Wha?" says I (I'm at my witty best just before dawn).

    "There's someone outside!"

Then I heard it - someone was sliding tiles around on either my roof or the neighbour's roof. I got up and went into the bathroom. I carefully opened the sliding window and looked out, but couldn't see anything. So, not wanting to get dressed and go out in 2 degrees, I did what I thought of on the spur of the moment - I slammed the window - BANG!

Well, there was a frightened curse, a slide and a thump, then the sound of someone limping away. Unfortunately I couldn't see them. What I did see though was their lookout across the road take off at a trot down the road after them. I spoke to the police who are checking the video cameras of the club across the road from me.

Next time I'll just call 000 and try to get a photo. Pity I didn't scare him into the other neighbours yard, the rotties would have enjoyed the snack.

    Thieves, I hate 'em

My Sally is a labrador, as you know. So long as they don't go near the fridge, pantry or the dog dish they're safe

    Gee Groggy,

    That was lucky.

Could have been a very different experience, like waking up to a claw bar on your noggin'. Very scary.

Hope the cops get some leads from the video.

Also got woken up one night by some vermin in the back yard trying to pry open the back door. They scarpered over the easy escape corner fence. Then I planted a climbing rose to cover the whole fence, one with big thorns. Now I can't get near the fence.

    Cheers,
    Pops

They push the tiles out the way and get into the roof space, then tear a huge hole in the ceiling and drop to the interior. Rob the place then exit via a door.

I don't know which is better; disturbing the cretins, or catching them in the act. Anyway, I'm glad your Missus is a light sleeper.

A - ahem - friend, back in the UK, caught a sneaky little git in one of his sheds late one Sunday night and belted him one, knocking him to the ground. He pulled a bag over the git's head and bound him well and truly and tied him to the back of a tractor. He set out across the fields, towing the git behind him and stopped beside a well-worn path in the woods. He tossed the git into a pile of briars and went back home.

Four walkers found him the following Saturday and suggested they help him to the nearest house (the one he'd attempted to burgle), but he declined and took off in another direction. My - ahem - friend was very disturbed to hear the walkers' tale.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Say in a loud, clear voice - 'Reba, get the keys to the gun safe and ammo box'. This works better if you actually have a gun......

Some residents of Cabramatta (Sydney druggie area for furriners) got sick of druggies jumping over or running along their fences when getting away from the Police, so they painted a good thick layer of automotive grease along the top cap of the fences - seems they have less trouble these days & there are fewer tired Police.
