    Default Amazing Flying Story

The most amazing flying story I've ever heard happened
about five years ago somewhere in South America.

A hijacker smashed his way onto the flight deck, killed
both the pilots and then turned the gun on himself.

So now you had a large passenger jet flying at 40,000
feet and nobody on board capable of landing the thing.

But then this 8 y.o. kid calmly got up from his seat,
walked to the flight deck and offered to take over. He
said he'd always been keen on aircraft and had read lots
of books and even had a jumbo jet computer game.

So what else could they do? They pulled the bodies
of the two pilots out of the way, sat the kid at the
controls, and above all the hysterical screaming,
he managed to get in touch with with the control tower.

He told them he didn't want to be told how to fly the
plane, he just wanted to know where the nearest
airfield was and what the weather conditions were.

He then took the plane off auto pilot, ordered everyone
off the flight deck and, with incredible self control for
an 8 y.o. managed to guide that plane and it's load
of terrified passengers - straight into the side of a
    mountain.

Yep... there's nine of them that they don't tell us about for every one of the uplifting inspirational successes that they do tell us about... (Cotton pickin' Microsoft "Jumbo Instructor" has got a lot to answer for... They should have asked the kid first "What level of difficulty do you play the bluddy thing on at home Punk?!" before handing the controls over...)

    Best Wishes,
    Batpig.

In 1994 we visited Japan and and went to a technology museum where they had a full Boeing simulator - the same as the ones the pilots train in - but enlarged to fit 10 pilots instead of 3. You really got to feel the lumps and bumps etc as you flew the plane around. The instructor, who spoke japanese with a smattering of English, did his spiel and we worked out that he would take us through a takeoff, fly around and landing, and then the 9 of us could all have a go. Everyone crashed the plane (mainly on landing) except my 11 year old son who landed safely and took off and landed safely several times to show it was no fluke - I have to say we were flabbergasted - way too much time spent on MS flight simulator even back then.
