Floating timber floor queries
Hi
I'm renovating my home on a tight budget and looking at laying a floating timber floor in my kitchen/ living area. I've been reading lots here and it's all very informative but I have a few queries.
The floor currently has very thin lino (it's about 30years old at least) on part of it. I have lifted about 1/3 of it but it took weeks - it's very well stuck down and when it did come off it left fibrous stuff which was a nightmare to get off so I gave up ! Can I lay floating floor over the floor, with the lino still on it, perhaps using some sort of levelling compound or would I have to get all the lino off? Or would a thicker underlay help?
I was looking at floating floors at Bunnings and they looked pretty good -I'd love the real thing but can't afford it. I think the dearest was about $29 sq mtr so the price is right. Would it be OK to use in a kitchen?
Thanks for any responses

If the the lino is still stuck down very well, yes you can lay floating floor over the top. You also have to check that the levels are correct. Most floating floors have a tolerance of 3mm over 3m.
One more thing, don't buy flooring from Bunnings, especially in the kitchen.
Where is Umina?Regards,

Are you doing it up to sell? if so then Bunnings stuff would be fine. If not you could find yourself back on this forum in a couple of years.
Relative to it's price then yes Bunnings stuff is fine.
