    Default Danish Oil recipee...

    Hi all,

I was am making a nice large hardwood dining table, as was thinking of using Danish oil as a finish. after doing a search I came across one receipee for Danish oil which was pretty much 4:1:6 of Estapol:linseed oil:Natural Turps.

Does anyone have a good recipee for Danish Oil??
Are there any problems with using Mineral Turps instead??
Does anyone know where I can get Tung oil in Brisbane??(Bunnings/M10??)

    Thanks
    Greg.

If you want a large quantity (10+ litres), you can buy in bulk from The Real Milk Paint Company in USA. They ship internationally in US gallon containers. The postal cost is high (particularly if you need it in a hurry), hence the requirement to order bulk.... But in large quantities it is way cheaper from there than locally (I am in UK, but I am sure you will find the same applies in Oz).

Greg I recently bought some Tung Oil at our local paint shop, $15 litre. It has the consistency of honey.
    Cheers

I purchased a 5L container of Sceneys Pure Tung oil for $53.00 the other day from PaintMobile here in Victoria. Give Sceney Chemicals a ring 0393117477 and see if they have a Queensland distributor. They put me onto Paintmobile.

Here's another recipe - probably not Danish Oil as such, but looks interesting:

    1/3 Semi-Gloss Polyurethane Varnish
1/3 Boiled, or Raw Linseed Oil
1/3 Teak Oil, or Tung Oil
Mix all this as one, then add 15% Mineral Turpentine.

    G'day.

    Lifted from this web page...

    http://www.wwch.org/Technique/FinishesRL/OilFin.htm

"a common recipe for home-brewed oil finish is to mix equal parts of
    boiled linseed oil,
    turpentine or mineral spirits,
and plain oil-based (gloss, not satin) varnish or spar varnish
    (spar includes some UV inhibitors)."

If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.
