WOODWORKING QUIZ for 26 July 04
Good Evening Friends,
When you are getting ready to install the trusses you want the walls to be as straight as you can get them.
How do you go about this chore in the land of OZ?

Easy Ralph,
I'd get my Dad to do it, or one of my brothers, while I hold the roofing square,Cabinetmakers & Builders always square up better than sawyers.

Ralph.
It's not a problem down here. Remember we are "down under". Being upside down, the wall hangs from the ground down and naturally hangs straight.
It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

Ralph,
two methods, depending on construction type:
1) keep an eye on the blocklayers to make sure they get it right!
2) Plumb and square end walls, fit temporary bracing.
Fit offset string lines along walls.
Mark out truss spacing and fit triplgrips (framing anchors).
Stand first truss, plumb and brace.
Stand following trusses, push/pull wall to proper alignment as you go and nail off to triplgrips.
Third possibility:
3)Give it all away and let someone younger and sillier do it so you can concentrate on more pleasurable stuff.

The best way is to use a few standard drop bears.
Several of these strung out along the wall, will allow the wall to fall into shape naturally on its own. Of course, this method only works in Oz because as Robert pointed out, the walls hang better down here.Bob Willson

WOODWORKING QUIZ ANSWER for 26 July 04
Good Evening Friends,
Bob, I know I'm dense but, I also know the walls do not hang upside down because you don't wear a tether on your Donkey, to keep you from falling off the earth.
Congratulations Mick as you gave the answer I was looking for.
Thanks guys for your support.
