Joining RHS Bearers
I have had house floor plans drawn up by engineers and am considering using RHS for bearers 100x50 2.0m
They are giving me spans of 3.2 meters
I can get lengths of 8m length with RHS
<o></o>
This mean my stump spaces would be 3.2 6.4 9.6 12.8 16 19. 22.4
By using 8m lengths stumps will sit on all but not at the 9.6 position
Can I use any internal joiners with the RHS and is welding an option(I would prefer not to weld) or is there another choice
Your thoughts appreciated

The proprietary systems use an internal joiner that is just screwed to the bearer/ joist.

If you want to avoid welding, I thnk that you could cope with internal joiner plates maybe 400mm OA x 75 x 6mm. 1 each side with three 12mm thereabouts bolts either side of the join. Lot of accurate drilling required though, plus you would probably have to weld nuts onto the back of the joiner plates an then run a tap through them to clear them anyway.
Otherwise accept a bit of waste and run in 6.5m lengths anyway so that you join at a post rather midspan. Much less likely to flex that way, and depending on the layout you might be able to bolt up at the intersection with the RHS's staggered either side of the stumps.
Ultimately, you need to verify it with the engineer to ensure that it is construction in compliance with there design.
