Engineered Retianer Wall
Hi Guys,
We may need to get a retainer wall built which would be an L shape ...
- One side of the L would be 2 meters high by 2 meters long,
- The other side of the L would be 6 meters long ranging from 2 meters in height at the highest end, down to 1 meter high at the lowest point.
This will be retaining a fair bit of dirt to keep it away from our house and would need to incorporate drainage.
Can anyone give me a rough idea of what this type of thing will cost? (can't find anything on the web elsewhere).
There is also some excavation required.
Thanks in advance,
Frog_hopper

If I was psychic I could tell what type of materials you intend to use, what your access is like, what type of soil you have, what type of drainage, where you live etc etc..then I could answer your question,
but I'm not

- Retainer would be made of conrete block
- Access is reasonable (2.5 meters down side of house, and no overhead obstructions)
- Live in Brisbane
Don't know what type of soil.
Don't know about drainage either ... just need to cope with general runoff / seepage from the backyard.

do a search on google into gabion baskets. They are a heavy duty wire mesh basket filled with rocks. Easy to do, you could even do it yourself if you have it engineered properly. I think baskets are around the $100 mark plus rocks. The beauty is you dont need drainage behind them as water can escape through the rocks. Have look here,

(email them for a price, a few years ago when I enquired they cost $66 for a 2mx1mx1m, download the brochure on this page on the right, it explains everything)
