Well was it a good thing? Or just a rubber stamp for some of the more controversial policies of the Rudd Government?

Lets see the Prime Minister calls a Summit 6 months after being elected to find out what direction and how his pat should govern and what direction the whole of Australia should take.

He invites heads of corporations these people he already has contact with and gets lobbied from daily.


He invites the so called brains of the country those boffin's who already are doing government work for such as this informing his office daily.

He invites world renown movie stars etc

All who were to pay their own way
All to go head to head over a weekend and come up with idea's for the next 10 years of Rudd Labor governance.

So glad I can't be blamed.

The only part I saw worth any salt was the QC who stood up and demand that politician's should be made accountable for their governance with court action.

I forgot this bit its going to take him 6 months to wade through all the deliberations and then make a choice of which direction. At that time he'll have been in power 12 months and still Australia waits.

A lot of it seemed pretty straightforward to me. Tax system is overcomplicated and needs simplifying, well that will shut down the tax industry. Australia as a republic, what... in the 21stC?!? Treaty with aboriginal people, Bill of Rights, etc. Id like to see some of the more off the wall ideas. Im sure the committee system would have killed them off. The larger the group the more conservative the behaviour.

Obviously Rudd and his mob can't think for themselves. If he keeps this up he will be Rudderless! Some of the "ideas" are left field and a bit nutty.
my worry is that some of the klutzes they picked don't even know how to wipe their butt. And this mania with Blanchette is a big worry. Is Rudd the Dad?

Great idea, no-one will do anything if they even wanted to take the job in the first place.


The big winners out of such a policy would be lawyers, fees galore as tax payer funded court cases dragged on , oh wait they suggested it.

Not too many new or original ideas came out.

It will be interesting to revisit each of the ideas in 6 or 12 months time and see how many have been implemented.

Hawke did the same sort of thing if you remember , all that did was a wage freeze for all those who voted him in , looked good at the time, vision for the future etc etc, so dudd has tried to upvame and do the same.
Who will lose , the voters as usual , is there anyone here who dosen't think that they would have more to contribute to such a meating that an out of work actor , yet blanchett was chosen, why wern't you , not a big enough sponser of the party perhaps

In the main what has been written so far has been negative. Let's be positive about negativity. It makes you feel good and cost no brain power.

In the top layers of industry they have a thing called a symposium. Lots of powerful people get together and -- guess what they do? They talk. It's rated highly and they come back with lots of good ideas. Sound familiar?

Brendan Nelson even went on a listen to the people walk. Seems he might have thought it worth while. But as one young girl said on "Insiders" on Sunday morning. "You couldn't warm a pie on him.

Good management does gather ideas from the lower echelons. If people don't get recognition that they have some input to give they get demoralised. Might just be what has happened to the Libs.

To put the summit into perspective, even if only one or two ideas that are truly worthwhile surface it will have been a success.

I remember, years ago, visiting Ford Mo Co in England. the PR guy mentioned how useful the suggestion box was. "Lots of rubbish every day, but occasionally a really good idea comes up. A worker suggested we only put a top coat on one side of a car wheel. Wheel would still be fully protected. We saved a bundle on that."
