WOODWORKING QUIZ for 22 July 04
Good Evening Friends,
When installing wood shingles, how much space should you leave between each shingle and why?

when I removed 160 year old shingles from my roof there was no gap between them.
Remember they don't build them like they used to. Thank Christ for that

I would probably leave about 3mm (1/8") to allow for swelling if/when they get rained on.

I guess they'd be quite dry and not very thick, so I'd use four at a time, about five minutes apart.
A typical roof fo timber shingles used in this manner would keep us in firewood for about four years.

WOODWORKING QUIZ ANSWER for 22 July 04
Good Evening Friends,
Running late due to unforeseen problems.
The answer for todays quiz is a 1/4" to 3/8" spacing between wood shingles to allow for expansion.
