Default Blue board and brick rendered Join

    Hi,

I have read lots of threads regarding the topic but with mixed reviews. I am planing to to get a solid door installed at the front of my house where i currently have a glass sliding door. The door jam has a glass panel so will only leave 300mm either side to be covered the length of the door jam. I intend to blue board this area and acrylic render the blueboard and brick. I intend to silicone the gap and blue tape the join and with any luck avoid cracking around the join. Has anyone got any tips to avoid cracking on such a small join with little movement. Your help would be greatly appreciated

    hello,

can you stand board to eliminate any joint?

i would also use something like "sikaflex" for sealing as this can be painted or are you talking about silicone after finshed rendering and painting

    thankyou

i have been told you can fill any excess gap with silicon where the board meets the brick work. Then use blue tape which is like plaster paper tape but stronger. I guess the crack between the board and the brick is similar to that of a plaster join, then render over the top. Fingers crossed i won't get a crack where they meet over time. The blue board itself won't have a join, as you said i will stand it straight up on it's end

    hello,

paint, acrylic render etc does not stick to silicone,

you are best to put a "fine" feature line between the intersection of the differing materials,

ie. run a 4 inch nail to groove

you will get movement as the door is opened and closed for example

    thankyou
