What oil to prevent red gum sleepers warping
Have just put a red gum sleeper wall up and wondering if there is a reccomended oil to use to try slow down/ prevent them from splitting/warping/losing colour? They have been in for nearly a week so im hoping to oil them this weekend.

Any oil will slow it down, but nothing will stop it.
So which oil you choose should depend on the desired look, your budget and environmental conscience. Old Sump Oil used to be a favourite of mine, but is a tad frowned upon nowadays for some strange reason.

I like old sump oil too however, if you expect anyone to sit, play or lean on the wall and not attract dust etc, then sump oil is not the best.
Also, unless you already coated both sides and the ends before you put the wall up anything you coat with will be largely cosmetic as the sleepers will dry out from the other side and maybe even twist more than they otherwise would.
If you still want to apply something something cosmetic I would just go for a pale boiled linseed oil and turps mix.
Cheers
